The NCCN Guidelines Panel for Melanoma debuted new guidelines for uveal melanoma at the NCCN 23rd Annual Conference. The cause of uveal melanoma is unclear. Uveal nevi are common (5% of Caucasians), but rarely progress to melanoma.

Metastatic disease is more likely to develop if the tumor is large or if it involves the eyelid conjunctiva or the caruncle. Metastases from conjunctival melanoma are more responsive to systemic therapy than uveal melanomas, especially if they show mutations of the BRAF gene. Impressive advances are occurring in this field. Fighting Ocular Melanoma

Uveal melanoma metastasis

Metastases are most frequently localised to the liver and, as few patients are candidates for potentially curative surgery, this is associated with a poor prognosis. There is currently little published evidence for the optimal management and treatment of metastatic uveal melanoma and Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common intraocular malignant tumor in adults. Primary UMs are effectively treated by plaque radiotherapy or enucleation; however, 30–50% of UM patients ultimately succumb to systemic recurrence, especially liver metastasis. Melanoma of the uveal tract (iris, ciliary body, and choroid), though rare, is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults. The mean age-adjusted incidence of uveal melanoma in the United States is approximately 4.3 new cases per million people, with no clear variation by latitude.

Its incidence in the United States is 5.2 cases per 1 million population per year. Roughly half of patients develop metastatic disease. 2020-02-10 · Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary eye malignancy in adults and up to 50% of patients subsequently develop systemic metastasis. Metastatic uveal melanoma (MUM) is highly resistant to immunotherapy. One of the mechanisms for resistance would be the immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment.

9592 Background: Despite successful treatment of primary uveal melanomas, up to 50% of patients subsequently develop systemic metastasis, with the liver involved in up to 90% of patients. At our institution, recognition of the poor prognosis associated with liver metastasis has led to the use of various liver-directed treatment modalities including transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with

When comparing immune profiles in peripheral blood of untreated patients with uveal melanoma liver metastasis and healthy blood donors, it was observed that  av M Fili · 2020 — Uveal melanomas constitute melanomas arising from the choroid, the ciliary body or the iris, and in adults stands for the most common primary malignant intraocular tumor. It has a high risk of metastatic spread followed by inevitable death, and unfortunately the prognosis has not improved over the last decades. Researchers at Sahlgrenska Academy and Sahlgrenska University Hospital have mapped the genome of metastases from uveal melanoma,  Uveal melanoma: implications of tumor doubling time.
